Nephi, Utah - Fabio Calabria of Team Type 1 sprinted to the finish of Wednesday's first stage of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, hoping to secure the Vitamin Water Best Young Rider jersey.

Calabria's 10th-place finish led the team. But it was three places behind Ryan Anderson (Land Rover-Orbea) in the competition that rewards the best rider in the race under the age of 23. Calabria is the only rider in the race who has Type 1 diabetes.

Team Type 1 spent most of the 101-mile (162 km) Utah Sports Commission Road Race following wheels as a three-rider breakaway stayed away to the finish. Jason Donald (Garmin-Chipotle) won the race. The rest of the 112-rider field arrived 20 seconds later.

The five-day, five-stage race continues Thursday with an 84-mile (136 km) mountain stage that starts in downtown Ogden and winds its way along the Wasatch Back past Snowbasin, Morgan and Big Mountain before a high-speed descent through Emigration Canyon to the finish at the University of Utah Orthopedic Center in Research Park.
