Where To Watch Team Type 1 This Weekend

Team Type 1 is splitting its professional squad this weekend to compete in the U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic, as well as the fourth and fifth men's events on the National Race Calendar: the Sunny King Criterium in Anniston, Ala., and the Nalley Historic Roswell Criterium in Roswell, Ga.

The racing action begins with Saturday's Sunny King Criterium, a fast, four-corner course 0.6-miles (1 km) in length. Team Type 1's roster for the race is a first for the professional team: all three riders have Type 1 diabetes. Team co-founder Joe Eldridge will be joined by Fabio Calabria and Timothy Hargrave. Frank Travieso (AEG-TOSHIBA-JetNetwork) is the race's defending champion. Team Type 1's Emile Abraham finished 12th last year.

The U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic on Sunday is a UCI Category 1.2 event that's 93.75 miles long (150 km), comprising 12.5 laps of a 7.7-mile (12.5 km) circuit with a start and finish in Crystal City. This new race will feature 13 teams from the United States and Canada, each of them featuring eight riders. Team Type 1's roster for the race includes Emile Abraham, Moises Aldape, Jesse Anthony, Glen Chadwick, Chris Jones, Valeriy Kobzarenko, Ian MacGregor and Matt Wilson. The race begins at 11:45 a.m., following the national anthem and an Air Force flyover.

Sunday's seventh annual Nalley Historic Roswell Criterium is an 80-minute race that begins at 6 p.m. Set along a one-mile (1.2 km) course that is a mainly flat, it features five left-hand turns with a slight (three percent) grade on the backside. Team Type 1's roster will be Eldridge, Calabria and Hargrave. Dominique Rollin (now of Toyota-United Pro Cycling) is the race's defending champion.
