Buellton, Calif. - Two members of Team Type 1 shared several important messages with a group of elementary school students Tuesday.Morgan Patton and Jesse Anthony spoke to students at Oak Valley School about Team Type 1 and its message: that people with Type 1 diabetes can live a normal lifestyle. Bicycle safety - and Anthony's impressive display of "bunny-hopping" up four stairs (pictured at left) - were also covered in the 40-minute presentation to more than 200 students, teachers and staff.
The appearance was the first of several visits to schools Team Type 1 will make during 2008. Students at Oak Valley were so attentive during the team's visit that the Principal Joel Williamson gifted each child an "Oak Leaf Ticket" for good behavior. The tickets made them more eligible for water bottles Team Type 1 left behind for raffle among students.
Anthony and Patton's presentation concluded with a question and answer session that included questions such as, "How fast do you go?," "How do you give yourself insulin when you are racing?" and "How do you know which way to go on the Race Across America?"
Reporters Nora Wallace of the Santa Barbara News-Press/Valley Living and Julian Ramos of the Santa Ynez Valley News/Santa Maria Times were also in attendance, covering the event for their respective newspapers.

Afterwards, Patton and Anthony signed autographs.
