Tour de Taiwan: Stage 3, Milne Climbs Into Third

Baguashan - Team Type 1 helped Shawn Milne move within striking distance of successfully defending his title during Stage 3 Tuesday at the Tour de Taiwan.

Milne climbed into a tie for third place overall - just six seconds off the overall lead - following the challenging 73-mile (117.4 km) race that featured a plenty of uphill riding in the last 12 miles.

"We worked the cross wind to soften the field and then put Valeriy Kobzarenko up the road," Team Type 1 Sport Director Ed Beamon said. "Health Net was forced to chase hard, which set up our attacks on the finishing climbs."

Australian Peter McDonald (Drapac Porsche Development Program Team) narrowly beat Erik Hoffman (Giant)and Milne for the stage win while moving himself into second place overall. American John Murphy (Health Net presented by Maxxis), who wore the green jersey of points leader after Stage 1, retains the overall lead for the second straight day.

Wednesday's Stage 4 returns to the flatlands with a 54.6-mile (88 km) circuit race through Taichung Forest Park.
